Ideas on State, Law, Power and Politics: Political Philosophy of Luther and Calvin

The course is designed to itroduce students to the thinking of the greatest reformers Luther and Calvin. The aim of the course is to analyze Christian political philosophy and to see the effects of Protestantism on the development of our political thinking.
 
First meeting (22nd of February, 3pm-5pm): The Protestant Reformation: Origins, Impact and Heritage (Historical overview: the main European connections; The start of reformation in Hungary; Spread of the new faith; Legacy of the reformation).

Second meeting (22nd of March, 3pm-5pm): meeting with bishop Péter KONDOR or professor András KORÁNYI (Southern Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hungary). The present situation of Protestantism in Hungary.
 
Third meeting (26th of April, 3pm-5pm): Luther and Calvin on State, Power, Law and Politics. The heritage – the development of our political thinking; constitution, decision making, involvment in politics, Beruf-avocaion, economics etc.
